Make a slowapp
A small program that draws a card or two. The hub runs it on schedule, and the screen handles the keys.
What a slowapp does
Draws cards
Pictures in the panel's four inks: black, white, yellow and red. A home card, a few details behind it.
Asks questions
It can put a question on the screen and get a key press back.
Sandboxed
It runs on its own schedule in its own box, and asks only for what it needs: the internet, a password, some memory.
Five steps
Copy the template
A small app that needs nothing from the internet, ready to rename.
Name it and pick its colour
Every slowapp gets a disk in one of the four inks. You choose which.
Draw a card
Python and Pillow out of the box. Any language works if it can write a picture.
Push it
The build draws your cards from sample data, so you can see them before any screen does.
Get it listed
Tag a release and open an issue with the repo link. We add it to the slowapps list with the next number.
The Reminders manifest
Reminders tells the hub its name, how much memory it needs, that it never touches the internet, when to run, and that it asks questions. Your app draws; the hub and the screen do the rest.
Manifest reference[app] id = "reminders" title = "Reminders" memory = "48m" network = "none" prompts = true [[job]] name = "render" daily = "00:01" [[feed]] name = "prompts" size = "slot"
Updates, now and then
A short note when there is a new board, a new slowapp, or kit news. Rarely more than one a month.
